Lucky J has returned with a new, higher profile thanks to the solo success of their vocalist, Jessi, as a rapper. They recently dropped the music video for “No Love“, which is not innovative or anything, but does its job.

Probably goes without saying by now that I liked the implementation of the traditional-sounding string elements into what otherwise was a basic beat. That element, along with quality execution of the rapping and vocals (mostly), is what leads to an overall successful return for the group.
That said, this trend of Jessi manipulating her singing voice is not something that seems to be working out all that well, and hopefully it doesn’t continue down the road.
