In a somewhat odd story, Jessi is being criticized to her reaction after seeing a teenage fan assaulted by somebody in the group she was hanging with.
Back in September, an 18-year-old fan of Jessi approached her while she was with a group of people to ask for a photo with her. Video shows the fan being stopped by somebody in the group Jessi was with and they reportedly swore at him in English as Jessi refused his request and apologized for it. The fan then seemed to back away in be leaving when another man punched and kicked him.
Shit was a cheap shot, too.
The victim of the assault went to the police, and when they caught up to her group, they allegedly claimed to not know the fan. When the fan’s mother went to Jessi’s agency to ask about the incident, she was reportedly told the perpetrator was Chinese, didn’t know Jessi, and was a friend of a producer.
When the agency was asked about it by the news, they reiterated that she did not know the perpetrator.
Jessi had absolutely nothing to do with this assault incident. “Jessi and her agency do not know the male perpetrator at all and he was someone they met for the first time that day.
Anyway, after the story broke Jessi was criticized for her reaction to the whole thing, walking away from the scene, and the victim also expressed similar sentiments of feeling let down.
Jessi then took to Instagram to release an apology and explanation.
First of all, I sincerely apologize to everyone who may have been disturbed by the reports regarding the recent assault incident involving me.
While I was attending a gathering with personal acquaintances, one of my fans, who became the victim, approached me to ask for a photo. Since it was late at night, I politely declined twice, and in that moment, an incident occurred where the fan was suddenly assaulted by someone I met for the first time that day. The situation escalated so quickly that I was also caught off guard and unable to properly handle the situation or look after the fan with care.
I deeply regret that my fan had to suffer harm in such an unjust manner, and I feel a great sense of responsibility for my failure to intervene properly. After the incident, both I and my agency have been in contact with the victim’s family and are working hard to help the victim find and bring the perpetrator to justice so they can receive an apology and compensation, and so the assailant is held accountable and properly punished.
First of all, I want to say I find it fucked up that the news is being phrased like she was involved in the assault or something, which is what I would’ve assumed with a lot of the headlines. And if the perpetrator really is basically a stranger to her, I understand sorta backing away from things initially, and even in the clip of her walking away it shows that she was talking with the group following the assault. Definitely doesn’t deserve to be like witch-hunted over this or something.
That said, even by her side’s own statement, the fan didn’t do anything to warrant such a reaction, especially since he’s seen backing away in the video. And while I’d understand separating herself from a group fight, it seemed less that and more like a random beating since her side had a big numbers advantage and she did try to stop him in the moment. It didn’t help that Jessi’s agency apparently gave the victim and his family the runaround initially before this all went public, but hopefully it can be resolved as she says in her apology.
