Once again, apologies for falling behind, but it’s been a busy time for me.
Some solid stuff these past couple weeks, though some of it will be featured later.
======
Bang Yong Guk (B.A.P) – “MOVIMIENTO”
I guess this is just a personal preference thing, but I just cannot stand those effects.
——
Bang Yedam & Winter (aespa) – “Officially Cool”
Not my kind of song, but it’s harmless and cute, and if it were done by more “serious” and known artists like, I dunno, Heize and Jay Park or something, it’d probably do well on the charts. Probably says more about the charts than the music, but still.
——
NOWADAYS – “OoWee”
Cube Entertainment‘s new boy group doesn’t give much reason to pay attention in their debut, falling into the sea of boy groups doing this same sound. They are so lucky they have (G)I-DLE.
——
Catch The Young – “Voyager”
Moar lyke Catch The Old* with songs like these, amirite? It’s fine, though.
*Yes, I realize that’s a bit of a self-own.
——
ILY:1 – “IMMM”
Probably a real chorus away from pop gold instead of whatever that was.
——
Yuqi ((G)I-DLE) – “Could It Be”
Live look inside my “Bonnie & Clyde” stan brain:
“It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release. It’s just a pre-release.“
——
woo!ah! – “BLUSH”
Complaining about trends in K-pop is sorta hypocritical, but holy shit, does every girl group have to do something like this? Anyway, the hook isn’t remotely good enough to carry this. They look better than ever, though, especially my girl, Nana.
——
ARTMS – “Flower Rhythm”
It’s an extremely busy instrumental and almost bleeds elements into each other at times, causing unnecessary friction. Still, the biggest issue is probably that I couldn’t find a core melodic moment to latch onto.
——
DKZ – “Like A Movie”
Bright and generic in an unremarkable way, the chorus doesn’t do enough to grab me.
——
Loossemble – “Girls’ Night”
The goal here is ostensibly to produce a party anthem for the girlies, and it gets closer than I thought on repeat listens. The second verse really takes it out of its rhythm and the chorus is a bit thin-sounding, which could limit its potential on growing on me, but the production melds better as you get used to hearing it.
——
BOYNEXTDOOR – “Earth, Wind & Fire”
I prefer the boy groups going in this direction as a trend because the baseline song is much closer to what I enjoy. Anyway, this is yet another attempt at expressing carefree fun, but the fast-forwarded vocals are gonna be polarizing and the delivery of the chorus is rather bland and uninteresting.
======
I swear I have some other stuff cooking for like DRIPPIN, VVUP, and EPEX since they deserve some attention.
