A situation involving singer BIBI recently received a lot of attention when she broke down on an Instagram Live stream, speaking on the difficulties she was suffering from and how she was feeling.
Essentially she spoke on being so busy with schedules she hasn’t been able to wash off her make-up, not sleeping well for days now, and even said she would kill herself if the exhaustion continued. She also says she tried to call her manager to see if she could sleep but didn’t get a response, continuing on to say that she hasn’t eaten well either. Before ending, she said that she wishes she wasn’t a singer.
BIBI herself then went on Instagram Live to stream again, downplaying the breakdown yesterday and saying she was stressed, she got rest, and that she apologizes for making everybody worry.
Fans had obvious reason to be concerned, especially given what we already know about the working conditions in the industry, and since she’s under Feel Ghood Music and Tiger JK is active on social media, people called for a response to this from him.
He did that in a Notes app statement.
Additionally, she also released a more official-sounding statement on Instagram.
“Even though I clarified the situation in a short live broadcast earlier today, it seems like there were many people who were very shocked, so I wanted to once again address the recent issue. I’m truly, truly sorry for worrying everyone so suddenly. While working on an album so great that it would shock the world, and simultaneously preparing other good contents, I think I experiences something like a burnout. My greedy desire to appear in front of the world in the most perfect image, with a bang, was too immense. The news articles used headlines like I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, and I want to give up on being a singer, which shocked me so much. I know that I surprised many of you, but please, put your concerns for me away. I plan on throwing away the weak and irresponsible sides of me, and will complete this album with passion, just like Hyeongseo always does! and I will greet you with a wonderful product soon. Thank you, sorry, and I love you.
PS. JK oppa and Mirae unnie are on the receiving end of a lot of misunderstandings.. but they are people who give me the most strength and comfort when I am having a difficult time. To my family, who always makes it happen whether it’s for something I want to eat, or something I want to achieve, I’m forever grateful. Thank you for even understanding and accepting the immature sides of me. I love you.”
Yeah, I dunno, man. Despite the clarifications, a lot of it just felt like panicked damage control after the mask slipped a bit. While I don’t doubt that she’s tight with her company and that they’re decent people, I also feel like the almost downplaying of the breakdown isn’t necessarily conducive to any of the issues that led to it being resolved appropriately.
Of course, we have to remember that the fleeting nature of fame is what drives this as well, so I’m sure she wants this herself to some extent. However, finding that balance is always key and it’s clear from this that isn’t happening at the moment. Feel like her fans are understandably still concerned about her situation, and for the rest of us it should at least serve as a reminder for how brutal the demands of the industry can be.
