Given what has been reported recently about Jinyoung, Yugyeom, and BamBam’s response to a JYP action, it has to be unsurprising that GOT7 reportedly will not be renewing their contracts with JYP Entertainment.
According to Dispatch, the 35th Golden Disc Awards will be GOT7’s last activity as a group. An industry source stated, “The GOT7 members are very close. They agreed to stay together, but they disagreed on the choice of their agency. After multiple discussions with the company, they decided to part ways.”
For now, they’re all going to do their own thing. The report mentions Jinyoung’s connection to BH Entertainment and Yugyeom with AOMG. However, the others have apparently been sorting their plans as well.
Youngjae was reportedly scouted by Sublime Artist Agency, which houses Song Kang Ho, Rain, EXID’s Hani, and more. JB has reportedly received offers from a famous hip hop label as well as a global music label and is planning to find a place that will support him as a solo artist.
Dispatch states that Jackson will continue his global activities through his own label Team Wang, and he will carry out his activities in Korea through a separate agency. BamBam will reportedly also balance his activities in Thailand and Korea. For his activities in Korea, he will receive the help of a content production agency, and he is reportedly in talks to sign a contract with with MakeUs Entertainment. According to Dispatch, Mark will return to his hometown of Los Angeles, United States to spend time with his family, after which he will open a YouTube channel. He is considering working on solo music in the United States.
The report seems to make it clear that GOT7, under one name or another, want to remain as a group.
An acquaintance close to GOT7 shared with Dispatch, “The members care a lot about GOT7. Though they will each promote separately, they agreed to make time when GOT7 reunites.”
Of course, we’ve heard that a million times before with other groups, so it’s reasonable to be skeptical. It’s not even a matter of whether they’re really actually close or not, but even if they are, the logistics of organizing something like that with multiple companies with different (perhaps competing) interests makes it difficult. Well, Brown Eyed Girls did it.
Either way, from what I’ve seen, GOT7 fans won’t be caring too much about their departure from JYPE as a company.
Meanwhile, the company itself continues to stick with the no comment thing that companies do when the reports are true.
In response to the report, a source from JYP Entertainment stated, “We can not confirm which [agencies] each member is in contact with. We will inform you once our position regarding GOT7’s contract renewal is ready.”
Yeah, sounds like the report is mostly accurate then.
