At the outset of their divorce drama, Goo Hye Sun had the sympathy of many following her story of hardship during her marriage with Ahn Jae Hyun. She got ahead of the press reports, basically saying that he treated her like shit and cheated on her — with actresses like Oh Yeon Seo and Kim Seul Gi being dragged into the mess. However, as more details came out things eventually started to turn, especially as parts of her story unraveled.
The latest chapter in the saga is Goo Hye Sun posting a picture of (probably) Ahn Jae Hyun in a bathrobe.
On October 11, she posted an image of someone wearing a bathrobe with the caption, “This is the album jacket image I was originally going to reveal for ‘Must I Die.’ I submitted four photos to the court. (The marked date is the song’s release date).” In early September, Ku Hye Sun claimed that she and Ahn Jae Hyun were getting a divorce because he had an affair, saying that she has a photo of him “eating a late-night snack with an actress at a hotel while wearing a gown.”
The caption infers that the picture is a part of her evidence that he was cheating on her.
However, his side said she was distorting reality.
Ahn Jae Hyun’s lawyer Bang Jung Hyun said that the photo was taken with an ex-girlfriend from before his marriage. He said through a statement, “Ku Hye Sun distorted [the truth] to make this photo a recent one and newly claimed that the reason behind the breakdown of their marriage is [his] affair.” The lawyer added that Ku Hye Sun has talked about this photo on “Newlywed Diary” previously.
She has since deleted the photo, but Dispatch followed up on it, eventually concluding that it was likely from way back in 2012, two years before Goo Hye Sun and Ahn Jae Hyun even met.
Because the bathrobe in the photo is embroidered with the logo “W,” Dispatch reports contacted staff members at the Walkerhill Hotel. A source from the Vista Walkerhill Hotel said, “Our hotel has never used a white bathrobe. All the bathrobes at the Vista are deep grey.” The Vista Walkerhill Hotel re-opened in April 2017. Prior to this, the hotel was known as the “W Hotel.” The source said, “During the time we operated as W Hotel, the bathrobes were dark red.” As a result of this conversation, Dispatch reporters concluded that the photo must be from a hotel that was not in South Korea. In searching for the logo on the bathrobe, reporters found a similar design on the robes for the hotel W Singapore – Sentosa Cove. The Dispatch reporters then contacted Ahn Jae Hyun’s legal representative, lawyer Bang Jung Hyun. He responded, “After looking through Ahn Jae Hyun’s travel records, we can confirm that he went to Singapore on December 30, 2012.” The identity of the person wearing the bathrobe is not clear from Ku Hye Sun’s photo. If it is Ahn Jae Hyun, the Dispatch report concluded, he was likely staying at the hotel W Singapore in December 2012. This would have been two years before he met Ku Hye Sun (the two met on the set of their drama “Blood,” which aired in 2015).
I mean it’s obviously still possible he cheated on her or something, but even if you’re still sympathetic to her, one has to admit that almost none of what’s she’s gone public with gives you logical reason to be confident in her telling the truth.
Somehow making things even worse, Goo Hye Sun followed this by swearing off talking about Ahn Jae Hyun.
“It is very strange. People think I must have made him crazy, even when he wasn’t devoted to our marriage, let me find out about circumstances that made me suspect that he was having an affair, and committed violence against me while inebriated. To be honest, I was exhausted from doing housework, so I wasn’t able to pay much attention to him. It was the opposite of obsession. He was probably also patient with me, but asking for a divorce was a brutal thing to do to me, who had lived her life while being patient with him. I wanted to keep using social media to show the feelings of betrayal that a person feels after finding out that [her husband] has been preparing for divorce for a long time together with his agency. However, we did not always hate each other during the three years that we lived together. For a long time, we cherished each other and were happy. That’s what made it somewhat difficult for me to accept this situation. The divorce suit is being processed, and I’ve been told that it takes a long time. Up until now, I hated him and wanted him to be destroyed. Now that I’ve sufficiently expressed my rage, he will no longer appear here [on my Instagram account]. Because I do not love him anymore.”
Again, admitting that you hated him and wanted him to be destroyed in response to seemingly getting caught making up a narrative about a picture is not the best look.
I’m always open-minded if the facts change at some point, and maybe they will in court, but I don’t see how anybody reasonable looks at how this has unfolded so far and finds her credible.
