Quick Reviews: LE SSERAFIM’s “HOT” ends up weirdly temperate

LE SSERAFIM have recently made their return with “HOT“, which had an extensive teaser period that left me mostly confused on when it would be released. Still, it was effective because the concept was appealing and they looked as good as ever.

That said, since I usually make a point to avoid audio teasers, I was pretty surprised by how chill and laid-back this is. Outside of the flourish at the end, “HOT” is seemingly purposefully mostly flattened and generic. I suppose that continues the less is more trend for many girl groups right now, but as I’ve said for other songs in this vein, unless it has one of those indelible melodies and/or hooks (again, like “Cupid” or something), it ends up mostly being relatively forgettable and background playlist fodder at best. I can’t say I’ll ever purposefully seek it out again.

While this was a bit of a disappointment for me, I’m not concerned because historically I haven’t enjoyed most of LE SSERAFIM’s title tracks, but their B-sides have always had something for me, so I’m looking forward to getting through those soon.
