Yulhee files for custody of her children and alimony from ex-husband Minhwan of FTISLAND

Continuing the old news catchup, former LABOUM member Yulhee has now filed for custody and alimony from her ex-husband FTISLAND member Minhwan. Previously, she had exposed the reasons behind their divorce.

On November 4, legal sources confirmed that Yulhee submitted a request to the Seoul Family Court to amend the custody arrangement and claim alimony and asset division. This decision follows the absence of a thorough discussion on these matters during their 2023 divorce.

Basically, what it sounds like is she didn’t know her rights at the time, and due to the stressful situation just agreed to settle on what would make things easiest.

At the time of their divorce, custody was temporarily awarded to Minhwan, with the understanding that Yulhee would assume custody once she could provide a suitable environment for the children. Yulhee recounted that, at the time, Minhwan had proposed 5 million KRW (approximately $3,700) along with 200,000 KRW ($150) in monthly child support, which she considered insufficient to secure housing for her family.
After the divorce, Yulhee learned that she could pursue custody, alimony, and asset division through legal channels and decided to take action to reunite with her children.

Indeed, she talks about being “exhausted, suffering, and mentally unstable”, so she just accepted things but has now retained a divorce lawyer.

“When the decisive divorce talk came up, I accepted Choi Min-hwan’s suggestion for a mutual divorce. I didn’t have the strength to go through a lawsuit.” 
She continued, “As soon as the mutual divorce discussion came up, Choi Min-hwan wanted to go to court within three days. But I think my judgment was short-sighted. If I had had the strength then, I wouldn’t have made that choice,” revealing that she has now decided to file a lawsuit to regain custody of her children.

Unfortunately, it’s supposedly likely to still be an uphill battle for her as courts are usually hesitant to move children. Regardless of how this case looks morally/ethically now, the status quo is mostly favored, but the investigation into Minhwan’s prostitution solicitation case could prove pivotal.
