Enterarts apologizes after being caught making and using AI of Soha’s voice without permission

In what seems like ominous news that might foretell the future, Enterarts has released an apology to singer Soha for using her voice without permission to release an AI song. Soha is a vocalist who has done work with virtual group Eternity and virtual idol Aimy Moon since 2021, and the release of the latter’s song “NEWS” was news to Soha.

It prompted an apology from the CEO.

I am Park Chan Jae, CEO of EnterArts.
Regarding the use of vocal data from artist An Seo Hyun in our music production, I deeply apologize as the CEO and as a musician for the unauthorized creation of AI vocals using her vocal recordings, which were used without prior consent to produce and release the song “NEWS” for our virtual character, Aimy Moon.
Moving forward, our company promises that we will not use vocal data from An Seo Hyun or any other artist to generate AI vocals without prior consultation under any circumstances.

Aimy Moon’s account also released an apology.

Soha then responded with her thoughts on the situation.

Obviously I feel for her and I’m glad she called this out and it was resolved, but at the same time, it also serves as a warning for artists to not work with AI groups like Eternity. At some point it becomes a bit of a Leopards Ate My Face scenario. Though perhaps the scarier part is that major K-pop companies are investing in AI, and they certainly have the power to include the rights to their voice and what not in contracts, which trainees will not have the power to refuse. We’re not there yet, but … well, I remain pessimistic.
