Earlier this year, former FAKY member Anna Sawai talked about her breakout role in the FX show Shogun, and about how Avex prevented her from taking acting jobs after previously promising otherwise. Well, now she’s the first actress of Asian descent to win in the Best Lead Actress In A Drama Series category at the 2024 Primetime Emmys.
She wasn’t the only one either, as Shogun won 18 Emmys, the most by any show in a single year. It included Hiroyuki Sanada winning Best Lead Actor In A Drama Series, the first Japanese actor and second Asian actor to win in the category (Lee Jung Jae in Squid Game). It was also the first time an acting award was given to a role not performed in English.
