Naevis, the SM Entertainment creation as a part of aespa‘s Kwangya lore, is set to make its debut on September 10 with the single “Done“.
It’s something of a long time coming, as it was supposed to debut at SXSW 2023, yet only technically appeared as a featuring artist on aespa’s “Welcome To MY World“ early last year.
But that’s not really what I wanted to talk about, as the news to me is that Naevis will be largely generative AI and will look to be spread everywhere (easier since it doesn’t fatigue like those pesky humans), with the particularly worrying part about the appeal to tech and K-pop companies being that these AI creations carry “low human risk” because they’re completely under the control of the company (and the article also mentions having control over their visuals, specifically their “body type”).
In an article about the appeal of virtual humans (low human risk), a little more about Naevis was shared. Naevis will use AI voice technology for its voice and generative AI to create content. In addition to music, Naevis IP will expand into games, brand collars and more https://t.co/hROatOArCD

Oh man, who could’ve seen companies would want that?
Honestly though, if Kakao takes over in K-pop I worry they would go all in on metaverse/crypto shit. I also feel like they're like one AI group success away from doing away with human idols altogether.

If it was just SME, maybe it wouldn’t be so concerning, but the article points out that companies like HYBE, Netmarble, KRAFTON, and Smilegate have also been investing in AI*, so if this isn’t something you want, it’s probably worth taking a stand now.
*Probably not a coincidence that the last three there are gaming developers/publishers, while Kakao obviously has their own gaming division and HYBE desperately seems to want in.
The pathetic thing is these companies so clearly desperately want the market that PLAVE have (or even like APOKI), and they have so many resources to attempt to replicate that by hiring artists (many of whom are hungry for work), but that’s not their end game as they’d prefer cutting the humanity out of it entirely.
Reading this while thinking about how K-pop companies love AI and want to become quasi-tech companies, lol. https://t.co/BVtXRt51kW
