Former B.A.P member Himchan is now facing a potential third sexual assault charge, and he’s currently being investigated for it while his second sexual assault case is in progress. His legal problems date back to 2019, when he was accused of sexual assault and was later was sentenced to 10 months in prison for it. Five days after the conclusion of the appeals trial for that case, during which he admitted the charges, he was accused by two women of sexual assault (this was in 2022). Additionally, he had a drunk driving charge in 2020.
Well, things appear to have repeated themselves recently, as Himchan has admitted to forcing himself on the two women last year, and it was also revealed that he’s facing a third sexual assault charge. His lawyer requested that both cases be merged and requested that the trial to be private.
Last April, he assaulted two women in the outside staircase of a bar in Hannam-Dong, Seoul. At the trial that day, Himchan’s lawyer acknowledged the charges and stated, “We are trying to come to an agreement with the victim and urge the trial to proceed.” It was also revealed that day that an investigation into another sex-related crime involving Himchan was underway.
Before the trial, Himchan’s side submitted a written opinion requesting a merger review of the case, which will be sent to the prosecution this week. Himchan’s lawyer submitted a written opinion to the court stating, “Please proceed with the trial privately,” but the court did not accept it.
Judge Kim drew the line, stating, “In cases of sexual assault, there are cases where they are conducted privately if the victim wishes, but today’s trial is not in the position to do that.”
There’s nothing really to say at this point. The compensation to the women of the 2022 case and the investigation into the most recent allegation are the points of contention at the moment, and while I realize it will factor in his eventual punishment, the real issue is that it seems clear Himchan is a sexual predator at this point and needs more than a slap on the wrist. That’s four potential victims in a three-year span, and those are only the ones who came forward. There needs to be a punishment more serious here than giving the victims money and spending less than a year in prison.
