As things slowly progress for K-pop companies towards their ideal of not having to deal with humans and their pesky rights at all, it’s being reported that Naevis of aespa and Kwangya fame will be making her debut during aespa’s VR concert at SXSW 2023.
In an interview with Maeil Business Newspaper, SM Entertainment’s co-CEO Lee Sung Soo revealed, “Nævis, who has thus far only appeared in the form of CG in aespa’s music videos, will be showcased as her own AI artist. The artist will be created using a mixture of the latest technology to ensure natural movements, a newly created voice, and even realtime communication.” Nævis’s voice will be created by sampling and digitizing the voices of 12 voice actresses.
It’ll be a part of the festival’s XR Experience Competition lineup, so they certainly seem dead serious about this. Assuming we have the time and means for SXSW again this year, that might be something this site is covering. I mean, I’m at least curious.
