Lee Jung Jae made history as the first Asian to win the Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama award at the Emmy Awards for his role in Squid Game. Meanwhile, director Hwang Dong Hyuk made history of his own by taking home a win for Outstanding Directing In A Drama Series, the first non-English drama to do so.
The show was also nominated in other categories as well, like Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series (Hwang Dong Hyuk), Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama (Jung Ho Yeon), Outstanding Supporting Actors In A Drama (Park Hae Soo, Oh Young Soo).
Additionally, Lee Yoo Mi took home a win at the Creative Arts Emmys for her impactful guest spot. She was the first Korean actress to accomplish this.
The show also won for Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode, Outstanding Stunt Performance, and Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour Or More).
