B-Side Spotlight: February 2021 (SHINee, Sunmi, Chungha, Wonho, ONF, CIX, WEi)

Alright, so, I know what you’re thinking: “Hels, where the hell have you been? Why are you doing your February b-side playlist in April?” These are both extremely good questions which I will not answer, because the explanation is boring.

Lots of good stuff came out during February, so without further rambling let me share some of my favourites with you all.

Chungha – “Masquerade”

Thank god for queen Chungha. It was a close call for my favourite b-side from her album between this, “Bother Me”, “Flying On Faith”, “Luce Sicut Stellae”, “Lemon”, and “X” — the whole album is so good.

CIX – “Round 2”

A very nice, very smooth jam from CIX. Love that for them and for me.

KINGDOM – “X”

I have to admit that most of KINGDOM’s mini left me cold, but I definitely like this track. It’s pretty and the vocals are nice, and it’s also the only track that isn’t totally swallowed up by the weird production of the whole EP. Something about it all feels very … tinny. Like weirdly compressed, and trust me when I say it’s not my headphones.

SHINee – “Heart Attack”

Not only is this my favourite song on this playlist, but it’s also my favourite song that has been released this year. Within two hours I’d managed to get this song to the top of my most played tracks, and I’ve had it on repeat ever since.

Sunmi – “What The Flower”

Fair enough to point out that this is the only b-side I could have chosen, but I’d still have chosen it anyway. This is my favourite flavour of Sunmi.

ONF – “Feedback”

It’s been a while, for me, since I enjoyed an ONF album properly. I think higher energy suits them, and this album gave me what I wanted. But then, of course, I have chosen one of the sweeter songs on the album purely because I like to cause problems on purpose (plus, it’s a fun little bop).

Wonho – “BEST SHOT”

I want only good things for Wonho, and because he is the best he only gives us all only good things in return. This is the perfect vibe for him.

WEi – “Dancing In The Dark”

I feel like if you were going to construct my perfect boy group bop, it’d sound pretty much like this. It might not be the most memorable song ever, but shout out to WEi for giving me something fun.

N.Flying’s Lee Seung Hyub (J.Don) – “Moon & Cheese”

So far, so good for N.Flying’s leader — this song made its way immediately onto my spring playlist. Looking forward to more!
