Jellyfish Entertainment took to Gugudan’s official fansite today to post a statement announcing the disbandment of the group after 4.5 years that was more like 2.5 years.
Hello.
This is Jellyfish Entertainment.
First of all, we’d like to thank the fans for loving and supporting gugudan. We would like to give you our official position regarding their group activities.
All the members of gugudan have been working hard and receiving a lot of love since their debut, but after a long and in-depth discussion, we have decided they will officially end their group activities on December 31, 2020.
Although their group activities are over, we will do our best to provide full support for their individual activities such as music and acting.
Thank you once again for your great support, and we sincerely apologize for the sudden news to the fans who love gugudan.
Lastly, please continue to show warm love and interest to the members who are about to make a fresh start.
Thank you.
I’ve always been somewhat partial to Gugudan, as I thought “A Girl Like Me” showcased immense promise and their last release “Not The Type” seemed to provide a path forward for their sound.
Of course, the reason this news isn’t that much of a shock is because “Not The Type” was the last group comeback they had way back on November 6 of 2018. Like a lot of post-‘PD101’ groups, they surprisingly didn’t seem to get a lot of company help, and they never made an effort to distinguish the group as anything but Sejeong and Gugudan. Still, they made some quality music and provided me with fun shitpost material, and it’s a shame how all this turned out.
