As Seungri is now in the military, the litany of criminal charges will now follow him there. The most recent update is that Ground Operations Command of the General Military Court will handle the case and the eight charges against Seungri.
According to army officials and other sources, Seungri’s case has been assigned to the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Agreement Department. After Seungri completed his basic military training, accordingly, the 26th Criminal Department of the South Central District Court transferred the trial to the General Military Court of the Fifth Corps Command on May 15th. The General Military Court of the Fifth Corps Command however did not directly take charge of the trial but transferred the case back to the General Military Court of the Ground Operations Command who filed the case on June 23rd. The exact reason for the transfer is unknown, but the move is said to be taken in consideration of the gravity of the issue. The move is seen as intended to conduct trials at higher-level units and deal with them in greater depth. The Ground Operations Command will conduct trial against Seungri for eight charges that include arranging prostitution and overseas gambling.
Given that Yoo In Suk has already copped to charges, it’s rather difficult to me to believe that Seungri just had no idea any of that was going on. Not that it matters, as there’s no reason to believe he’ll be held accountable, either through being guilty or the sentence, as the Korean courts recently set the guy convicted of running a huge child porn site free after just 18 months.
Also, one thing somebody reminded me of recently was Seungri’s sex scandal in Japan back in 2012. The only thing I remember about our coverage of it was meme’ing Seungri throwing the towel, likely because at the time, it seemed like a tabloid rumor that many didn’t take seriously at all (or made light of, even).
“Currently residing in Japan, Seungri’s bed scandal was revealed… A woman who slept with him shared, ‘Seungri has the habit of choking [the other individual involved] during sexual intercourse,’‘” the magazine stated, and also added that the woman allegedly claimed that “he ejaculated on her stomach and didn’t help wipe it off, and rather just threw [her] a towel. In addition, he didn’t even kiss [her] once.”
Obviously things aren’t so funny anymore, especially given that he later admitted to the one-night stand. In retrospect, it seems worth re-thinking this incident entirely especially given that the way she describes the choking didn’t seem consensual. At the time, I think many assumed it was and it was just kinky, and perhaps that’s a benefit of the doubt he never deserved.
