(G)I-DLE are making their way overseas after signing with Republic Records, and a part of that is releasing an English version of their hit, “LATATA“.
While I loved the original, I just don’t feel this is necessary. Nothing is wrong with making English songs, but remaking Korean songs into English (or most language translations, really) rarely works out because it’s so difficult to get right. Trying to keep the same meaning, using the same English words, with same rhythm, and the same rhymes, etc while translating it to a different language is usually impossible and it predictably feels off here.
