Teriyaki Boyz’s “Tokyo Drift” makes a comeback thanks to 88rising’s freestyle challenge

Teriyaki Boyz were effectively a Japanese rap supergroup consisting of m-flo‘s Verbal, Rip Slyme‘s Ilmari and Ryo-Z, rapper Wise, and BAPE founder Nigo. They are probably most famous for providing the titular song for ‘Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift‘ called … “Tokyo Drift“.

So why bring this up now, right? Well, Rich Brian from 88rising created a bit of a challenge freestyling over the beat, which is admittedly a beat worthy of it.

His labelmates like Audrey Nuna, Suboi, JP The Wavy, Anarchy, Leon Fanourakis, and Awich followed with their own versions.

That in turn has led to the YouTube algorithm recommending Teriyaki Boyz videos to everybody, most prominently a 2007 performance of “I Still Love H.E.R.” with Kanye West on Music Station.

They should take advantage of this and reunite, IMO.
