As a part of Mnet’s rebranding as a network who doesn’t rig every survival show they do, Mnet is emphasizing programs like ‘Queendom’, which was successful because of the performances rather than revolving around the voting shit.
As sorta expected though, they are now going to do a male version of the show that will presumably be called ‘Kingdom’. But the next program they are doing will actually be a competition to get into ‘Kingdom’ and be called ‘Road To Kingdom’.
A source from Mnet shared to Newsen, “The first recording for ‘Road to Kingdom’ will take place sometime in March. Because the show involves the groups meeting each other for the first time during the first recording, we cannot reveal the lineup.” “Queendom,” which aired its first season last fall, featured a star-studded lineup of girl groups facing off against one another in various competitions before culminating in a fierce “comeback battle.” In “Road to Kingdom,” several boy groups will go up against each other and release music on streaming sites simultaneously. Based on Joy News 24’s report, the winning group of “Road to Kingdom” gets the opportunity to join “Kingdom,” Mnet’s next survival program scheduled for the second half of the year.
The groups they are in talks with are ONF, Golden Child, The Boyz, VERIVERY, and TOO, with the show currently slated for the first half of 2020.
Obviously disappointing to not get ‘Queendom 2’, and even worse that we’re apparently essentially going to get two seasons of ‘Kingdom’-related shit before a second season of the show that started them down this path. But such is the reality of the industry in terms of boy groups versus girl groups, I suppose.
