Prosecutors raid police HQ in connection with Burning Sun scandal … timely

Hey, remember the Burning Sun scandal and how police were allegedly involved in that? Well never fear, as prosecutors have raided the police headquarters like six months after the allegations.

Prosecutors on Friday raided the National Police Agency headquarters in western Seoul, widening their probe into allegations that a ranking NPA officer was involved in attempts to cover up irregularities at southern Seoul nightclubs. Prosecutors and investigators from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office searched the office of a senior superintendent, identified only by his surname, Yoon, at the NPA headquarters, beginning at 9 a.m., before reportedly securing his computer hard drive and other materials relevant to their ongoing probe. The 49-year-old Yoon made headlines early this year after he was mentioned in group chatrooms of K-pop stars, including former boy band BIGBANG member Seungri, as someone who helped cover up illicit dealings at nightclub Burning Sun and other businesses run by Seungri. Yoon is suspected of tipping Seungri and his business partner, Yoo In-suk, a former head of Yuri Holdings Co., off about a planned crackdown by Seoul’s Gangnam Police Station in July 2016 on alleged food sanitation law violations by another southern Seoul nightclub, Monkey Museum, co-founded by the two.

Somebody else was arrested in connection with the case as well.

Prosecutors last week arrested a former head of specialty ink maker Nokwon C&I, surnamed Jeong, who reportedly acted as a link between Yoon and Yoo, on charges of embezzlement.

I know, I know, it’s likely not the same scenarios, but one has to admit the optics of them taking like a week to raid Mnet for vote rigging (ALLEGEDLY) an idol survival show, and consistently doing raids in this scandals long after people involved would’ve destroyed evidence is … well it’s fucking something, huh?
