BABYMETAL have had a bit of a mixed run since the departure of YUIMETAL in my estimation. “Starlight“ didn’t manage to connect with me, but the relatively anonymous “Elevator Girl“ pushed them forward into their maturer selves. Their most recent release “Pa Pa Ya” comes with heavy speculation that they’re about to become a trio again and also continues the progress of their sound along with their group membership.
Thankfully, “Pa Pa Ya” delivers on what’s expected of the newer BABYMETAL in pairing unfettered aggressiveness with melodic underpinnings and including a catchy hook to boot. Hell, there’s even rap-rock now with Thailand’s F.HERO, which was kind of a pleasant surprise.
