In an announcement posted today on the group’s official blog, it was revealed that AKB48 will not hold their annual Senbatsu Election in 2019.
Thank you for supporting the AKB48 group. We will not be holding AKB Groups annual event “AKB48 Senbatsu Sousenkyo” this year, which has been held 10 times and welcomed a convergence last year. AKB48 group will continue to work hard everyday to strive to become a group that fans will want to support from their heart. We look forward to your continued support.
No word on why this was done and I honestly don’t know enough to speculate on potential reasons.
It would seem like this was like printing money every year, but perhaps they’re just resetting the stage after a decade of doing it.
