Korean hip-hop trio Epik High have left YG Entertainment, according to a statement from the company.
“YG Entertainment’s exclusive contract with Epik High has ended. After long discussion, YG and Epik High came to an agreement to not renew. YG expresses gratitude to Tablo and Epik High, who have done great music together with us for seven years. We are also cheering on their new start and activities. We hope they will always be in good health and happiness, and we ask for many people to send blessings for Epik High’s future. We express our deep gratitude to the fans who have loved Epik High as an artist of YG.”
While there’s something to be said for YGE giving them a landing spot after the witch hunt of Tablo went down, as a fan of the group I definitely won’t be sad to see them go, as I preferred their output prior to them joining the label.
Suppose there truly wasn’t a reason for them to stick around after HIGHGRND was reportedly shuttered anyway. Of course, them leaving is meaningless unless they plan to continue on and regularly release music, and hopefully they will.
