Prior to ‘Produce 48‘ starting, it was reported that their contracts would be for 2.5 years, but it didn’t say if any of that was exclusive. Thus, it seemed like common sense that the Japanese contestants who made it would be busy shuttling back and forth between countries a lot. However, they may not have to, at least for 1.5 years.

That is … interesting, especially for rising AKS contestants. Previously I had posed a question of whether stars like Miyawaki Sakura and Matsui Jurina would even want to dedicate like three years of their lives to this, and people pointed out that many of them likely would enjoy doing different stuff and taking this chance could set them up better for solo activities after they graduate. However, I do wonder if less established up and comers would feel the same.
For the Korean contestants, the only risk is if the show ends up flopping, honestly. But even then, there’s not a ton of downside that I can think of.
