The Park Geun Hye/Choi Soon Sil scandal seemed to leak into the Korean entertainment world a week back when YG Entertainment was speculated to be involved in some capacity. Specifically, YGE got entangled due to alleged impropriety involving the development of a cultural complex, Psy‘s alleged ties with Jang Siho (Choi’s niece), and Cha Eun Taek‘s supposed connection to the company and artists (like Psy).
Well now Cha has been arrested under suspicion that he embezzled millions of dollars of government money, and Yang Hyun Suk himself has come under suspicion of a connection with Choi. As such, YG released a statement categorically denying the allegations.
YG founder Yang Hyun Suk denied those allegations, saying: “I have no idea why people believe these words. I have 0% association.” YG continued, “It’s been 10 years since I’ve seen Cha Eun Taek. There’s nothing to clarify.”
Now that Cha is in custody, this could be cleared up quickly or could drag on for the company forever depending on what he tells authorities.
For Psy’s part, he’s “postponed” an appearance on ‘Radio Star‘, which has led to speculation about the reason considering the rumors surrounding him.
The singer was going to appear for recording next Wednesday, but a source revealed a change in schedule, saying, “PSY is getting ready to focus on his new album, so it seems difficult for him to make time. It is not a cancellation, but a postponement.”
As I said before, I have my doubts as to exactly how involved YGE or YG or Psy is in this scandal. It definitely wouldn’t surprise me one bit since they’re a company after all, but so far most of the ties seem somewhat tenuous. Of course, that could change in a hurry depending on what Cha tells authorities or what they find while investigating him, but for now it’s mainly just a terrible look for YGE to even just be mentioned alongside a mess of this magnitude.
